Moontivating

Moon day is celebrated on July 20 marking the day in history when man landed on the moon for the first time. It was on July 20, 1969,when Apollo 11 carried two Astronauts to the surface of the moon. As the sphere in shades of grey rises in the night sky , My mind begins wandering into the world of ambitions The phases of moon looks like a pictorial representation of the phases of our life The waxing and waning - from the full moon to the new moon The knowledge and experiences gathered from incidents that didn't particularly go the way you expected it to,  the success and motivation acquired from turning points in life During the lunar eclipse the acquired red shade tells us that when your colours change the entire world admires you greatly Its uneven rocky surface marks that it is impossible to be perfect if your the light in the path you are making!! - Bharathi Senthilkumar

GUILT

Guilty is the mind that has not accepted what your heart has. Guilty is that mind which looks over a 1000 possibilities knowing that the first one has already happened, Guilty is the mind for dreaming of the perfect world all alone Each time I pick up those dirty plates I see the leftovers  the guilt fills me as  I remember the boy begging by the hotel The young girl whose cloths hung over her fragile skeleton The baby on her back crying in hunger. Each time I see the garbage hills and land fills I'm engulfed in guilt The guilt of ignoring that sight and not doing anything about it The guilt of ignoring in spite of the knowledge that its going to affect my planet , my generation Each time I see water leaking out off an unfixed tap  I'm immersed in guilt as I can feel the scorching sun burning my skin I can imagine what would be left of the ozone if we continue global warming at this rate Each time I come across an article on a religious conflict    I'm fill...

Twists in my Life #1

Recently, a very life changing event took place. It changed the perspective I had to many aspects of life.  Each day when I wake up with the excitement of a new sunrise,  When I wake up with the gratefulness of another chance to prove myself and accept myself. I am certain of what will happen the next moment. I've planned the next move the second before Yet I am anxious of the future, unable to experience the present. What happens to the 'Plan' if there is an unexpected event? I started to feel broken I started looking for excuses to assure myself that I'm not wasting my time.  I think I am feeling this way only because nothing has happened to me, nothing big enough for me to even understand the pain. I'm just affected by what has happened to my mother. It not only affects me as I am to take over the various responsibilities in the house but on an emotional level, its simple hard to process truth.  She has gotten hurt and we have 100% grantee and hope that she will ...

Irrigation Automation

The second session on the topic ‘irrigation automation ’ was truly mind blowing just as the previous one. Three experts share their journey learning and understanding of the subject.       A question was raised at the end of the session but I think that question was the driving force of the entire discussion. The question was ‘will there be no more people who work on the farm in 10 to 15 years?’      After a quick introduction it was recognised that everyone mostly has coconut and betel nut farms on the lines of which Ramya Akka shared an easy technique of mulching to have effective irrigation along with the right number of fertilisers dispensed over a long time. The mulching must be done around the area of the coconut farm in rows and columns, then the drip irrigation dispenses water in the mulch. This type of mulching can preserve the soil strength and the amount of water used too. As the water doesn't evaporate very easily...

Soil Biology

A small note on the first workshop conducted by Young Farmers Forum, an association for farmers situated in Coimbatore. We had splendid learning experience for the session. The Initiation by young farmers Forum and Kumaraguru Institute of agriculture was kicked started with an interactive session on S oil Biology . There were 3 experts, the founder of Panmayam (an organic Farm) a professor from Kumaraguru Institute of agriculture and a soil biology researcher.        They covered Soil Biology from the basics to how soil must be treated for more yield from the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the types of soil in Southern India. Around 30 people were present with the largely varied understanding of the subject, everyone who came was maintaining a farm and had a lot of experiences to share with us.        The biggest problem suppressing the stable state of soil is the quick eradication of topsoil. The use of ...

Migration

Today is World Migratory Bird Day. From a young age watching flocks of birds rule the sky for over hours has been my major form of enjoyment. First, I was only enchanted in the beauty of their flapping wings and their mesmerizing melodies. Once I understood many forces are acting on it, I begin getting the feeling of astonishment. In spite of all of the gravity and drag with that small body it can produce so much thrust that it can lift itself to be in the place where it can get that bird-eyed view. When I was just pondering about those days, when I sat down not to think about the future but just to stare at the birds fly across from tree to tree. When I was thinking about Migration as a whole, I jotted down my thoughts and this is what I wrote: - When we exit the womb into the world, When we acquire the maturity to identify good over bad, When we adjust our need of food, to the need of money, When we stop dreaming about others and begin planning for ourselves, When we are pull...
